A few days ago, I heard someone say that the solution many humans look for in intoxicating substances, can be found spiritually. Such as, our identity, a sense of freedom, a way to move on, ability to forgive over forget, overcome fears, etc… these can all be found in a spiritual experience. In the bible, they have a book of Acts, where spiritual leaders were mocked for being “full of the new wine”. In Greek ‘new wine’ would be referring to an unfermented or non-intoxicating wine. This may have been because of the Spiritual experience and freedom that these individuals displayed from a ‘new wine’ or pure experience. I found this to be true in my own life and that substances are only temporary. Substances have proven time and time again to be the most ineffective way to problem solve. When they wear off the problems are still there and they usually add several more. However, a spiritual experience has allowed me the courage to face the reality of these problems which has brought a lasting sense of joy and freedom. Today, I genuinely feel this pure experience from a "new wine" and the best part is that it's on offer for everyone.
How has spirituality replaced substances in your life?
